Windows 10 Black Screen after Update fix
This is one we’ve had in the office and amongst others in the online community over the past week and that is people getting a Black screen with when booting up your PC after a recent update.
Restarting doesn’t seem to help and all the online guides suggest you should go into safe mode, which you can’t because all you get is a black screen with no error.
Some have decided to start referring to it as the “Black Screen of Death” or “Black Screen of Doom”
Thankfully we found a fix that seems to work in 2018 as we write this and hopefully it’s of use to you too.
Let the computer boot to this black screen and then go and make yourself a drink, wander around for a bit or check Facebook on your phone because you need to wait.
It will take somewhere between 5 and 15 minutes but eventually you’ll see a little cursor start to blink in the top left.
Once you see that turn the power to the pc off and then boot it up again.
For good measure exactly at the second you see the Blue Windows icon pop up hit the power button again and reboot one last time.
This time you’ll see Windows load normally and you should be back on business! No more black screen on startup!
It seems to be that the issue is related to the master boot record that Windows uses to manage its startups. By waiting for the cursor your letting it have the time it needs to realise it’s failed and sort itself out.
Hopefully this should save some headaches and stress – but it would be much better if Microsoft just fixed it in the first place of course.
